Join us for intimate storytelling, intergenerational community interviews and the practice of theatre as activism at our Fall Theatre + Activist Workshop. You'll have the opportunity to meet with professionals in the field, including artists, performers, scholars, activists and more at the Center on Halsted!

AFYT Past Performances and Workshops
The HIV Intergenerational Retreat at Center on Halsted
March 8th, 2008- Young people from About Face Youth Theatre shared stories and created performances with adult mentors from Broadway Youth Center and Center on Halsted in an effort to bridge the gap between multiple generations on the subject of HIV and AIDS. This event documented a missing history from youth culture on the beginnings of the epidemic, and allowed youth to gain information and knowledge about their elders. It provided the community a forum to speak and connect to our personal histories, revisit our political gains as a community, and create a contemporary map of our concerns and current work regarding HIV and AIDS. Participating organizations included: AFYT, Beyondmedia Education, Broadway Youth Center, Center on Halsted and Vocalo. Special thanks to HIV scholar and University of Illinois professor, Jennie Brier, for her introduction to the HIV timeline. Stories collected and recorded at this event will be used for the purposes of the mainstage production of the About Face Youth Theatre show. This show will premiere in partnership with COH and HBHC/BYC.
